Rev. Dr. Alonzo Perry, Sr.

Rev. Dr. Alonzo Perry, Sr., is a native of Asbury Park, NJ. He has  served as the pastor of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Jersey City, New Jersey since November 1997.

He is a graduate of Jersey City State College in Jersey City, NJ, where he received the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology. He received the Master of Arts Degree and a Ph.D. in Christian Management and Leadership from Trinity Theological Seminary, Newburgh, Indiana. He has an honorary doctorate from St. Thomas Christian University, Jacksonville, FL. Dr. Perry is currently serving as the 1st Vice Moderator of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Association.

Reverend Dr. Perry is happily married to the lovely Brenda Brown Perry. They have three children, Alonzo, Jr., Danielle Jillian, and Giselle Elise.

Dr. Perry has led the church in several revitalizations and updates. In addition, he led the church through the total renovation and refurbishing of the church sanctuary and education building. The church has installed central air conditioning, stadium seating, and renovated the front exterior of the church. He led the church in the design and building of a start-of-the-art nursery and upgraded all of the restrooms. Recently the church has raised over $150,000 in Project Nehemiah to fund the replacement of the roof on the main sanctuary and other improvements. The church has converted from oil heat to gas heat. In 2014 Dr. Perry formed New Hope, ETC (Educate the Child), a non-profit which seeks to improve the lives of families and children. Since its creation, New Hope ETC has started a nursery, food pantry, STEAM Academy (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), and an after-school program that serves over 200 children in Jersey City. New Hope ETC also feeds over 300 students daily. New Hope ETC also partners with disadvantaged children in Haiti and has helped to provide tuition, and uniforms for over 800 students since 2012.

New Hope runs a weekly food pantry that serves over 70 families each Tuesday. In addition, the church has recently opened a community refrigerator that makes perishable goods available to the community 24/7.

Since 2014, Dr. Perry has been a board member of New Jersey Together, which is a growing, broad-based coalition in New Jersey of multi-faith, multi-issues, and is strictly non-partisan. New Jersey Together partners with religious congregations, non-profits, neighborhood organizations, and parent groups to develop leaders, strengthen communities, and seek justice.  He is also a leading member of Jersey City Together, a member group of New Jersey Together, where he helps to add value to the lives of Jersey City residents through community organizing. Currently, Dr. Perry hosts two weekly Bible studies on Facebook and YouTube. He has merged the use of technology and dynamic teaching tools in the church. Dr. Perry is currently leading an initiative to bring together African American pastors in Hudson County to help meet the needs of churches and the community.

Dr. Perry is happily married to Mrs. Brenda Brown Perry. They have three adult children, Alonzo, Jr. and his wife, Dr. Chantel Perry, Danielle, and Giselle and her husband Jarrod. They also have two grandchildren, Willow Skye Perry, and Brendan August Perry. Dr. Perry loves teaching, and is an avid reader.
